Cameroon’s Perspective on Information Integrity and Peace & Security

During the dialogue, Ambassador Ewumbue-Monono provided updates on the deliberations of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC) meeting held on 14 November 2025, highlighting the growing importance of information integrity within Africa’s peace and security architecture.

He underscored the critical relevance of addressing information-related challenges, including the spread of mis- and disinformation and digital manipulation in the context of conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and continental stability.

The Ambassador also announced that the AU Peace and Security Council will convene a dedicated discussion on “Information Integrity, Peace and Security” on 9 October 2026, under Cameroon’s leadership of the Council.

The forthcoming October session will provide an opportunity to further examine the relationship between information integrity, peace and security and to advance continental perspectives on addressing emerging information-related challenges.

"Addressing information-related challenges is vital for conflict prevention, early warning, and continental peacebuilding. Cameroon looks forward to guiding the African Union Peace and Security Council’s dedicated session on Information Integrity, Peace and Security on 9 October 2026." - H.E. Ambassador Churchill Ewumbue-Monono

Strengthening Multilateral Cooperation

Cameroon’s participation in the Information Integrity Solutions Dialogue reflects its active engagement in international and continental efforts to promote an enabling information environment and strengthen the contribution of communication and information to peace, security, and sustainable development.

The engagement also reinforces Cameroon’s leadership role within the African Union Peace and Security Council and its broader commitment to strengthening cooperation among African and international institutions on emerging peace and security challenges.

This initiative builds directly on Ambassador Ewumbue-Monono's longstanding advocacy for media safety and access to verified information, recalling the Council's landmark session on protecting journalists and access to information in conflict situations.
