Image

June 22–27, 2025

Ambassador Churchill Ewumbue-Monono is currently on a high-level humanitarian mission to South Sudan under the auspices of the African Union. Taking place from June 22 to 27, 2025, the mission is part of the AU’s ongoing efforts to respond to humanitarian emergencies across the continent through strategic diplomacy and coordinated field engagement.

In response to growing concerns over displacement, limited humanitarian access, and fragile peace conditions in the region, the AU deployed this mission to engage directly with local authorities, humanitarian actors, and affected communities. The goal: to assess needs, identify challenges, and open safe humanitarian corridors.

A Mission Highlights

• Consultations with South Sudanese officials and humanitarian agencies
• Assessment of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnee settlements
• Strategic dialogues to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access
• Advocacy for enhanced AU-UN cooperation in protection missions

Looking Forward

A full report of the mission will be presented to the African Union, including policy recommendations to strengthen humanitarian interventions in South Sudan and similar contexts. Ambassador Ewumbue-Monono’s work continues to reflect the values of solidarity, peacebuilding, and service to humanity—principles at the heart of both Cameroon’s and Africa’s vision for the future.
